Some interesting facts about Scottish Pebble Jewelry. The origins of the use of Scottish Pebbles in Jewellery probably date back to the 1750s. Evidence that Cutters were advertising the trade of cutting Granite and Quartz material have been found from these dates in Edinburgh and Glasgow and Aberdeen for Granite. To begin with they were often set in brass or base metal. The earliest important piece was the Dukal Suite made in the late 1700s

The advent of the steam railways in the 1840s onwards made travel easier and so trade in these pieces began. It was probably Queen Victoria on her numerous visits to Balmoral who popularised Scottish Pebble jewellery.

Original Scottish Jewelry is very highly collectable and fine original pieces quite rare. Of course there are many modern reproductions too.
